Travel to Ljubljana

Ljubljana is located at the intersection of major European transportation routes, half way between Vienna and Venice.  It is easily accessible by train, from the highway, and by air, with Ljubljana Jože Pučnik international airport being only a short drive away (23 km northwest of Ljubljana).

By air
Ljubljana is best served by its International Airport at Brnik, with daily connections to most major European cities.  From the airport, Ljubljana can be easily reached either by bus shuttle service to Ljubljana bus station (approx. EUR 10) or by taxi (approx. EUR 40).

You may also find it convenient to use one of the following airports such as:
Trieste – Ronchi (Italy), 128 km southwest of Ljubljana
Venice – Marco polo airport or Treviso airport (Italy), 220 km west of Ljubljana
Zagreb – Pleso (Croatia), 141 km southeast of Ljubljana.

By rail
Slovenia has a developed network of railways, connecting Ljubljana with Maribor (Slovenia’s second largest city); Graz and Klagenfurt (Austria) to the north; and Trieste (Italy) to the west.  Ljubljana’s main train station, simply called “Ljubljana”, is within an easy walk to the city centre.  The web site of Slovenian Railways displays train schedules: http://www.slo-zeleznice.si/en

By bus
The web site of the Ljubljana bus station offers timetables for all local bus connections, including the plan of the bus routes.  For most of the routes you can buy the tickets directly from the driver.  Please have small denomination Euro notes and coins ready.
