Speaker Pic Pieter Marten ter Wee

Pieter Marten ter Wee, MD, PhD, went to the medical school of the Rijks Universiteit Groningen from which he graduated in 1982. He started his training in Internal Medicine in 1985 at the Academic University Hospital Groningen and training in Nephrology in 1990 at the Vrije Universiteit Medical Center (VUmc) in Amsterdam. In 1994 he became head of the dialysis unit of the VUmc and in he was appointed as professor of Nephrology and Head of the Department of Nephrology at the VUmc Amsterdam. In 1987 he defended his thesis on renal reserve capacity in man. Pieter ter Wee has published more than 200 papers, including reviews and book chapters, on renal haemodynamics, clinical nephrology, and peritoneal dialysis. He currently is president of the Dutch Federation of Nephrology. Pieter ter Wee is a member of a number of societies in the Nephrology field, board member of ISRNM and a reviewer for many journals. Dr ter Wee has received research grants from the Dutch Kidney Foundation and several companies including Baxter Healthcare, Fresenius Medical Care, Gambro, Roche and AMGEN.
