Claus Schmitt Claus Peter Schmitt graduated from medical school at the University of Freiburg, Germany. A two year scientific scholarship of the German Research Foundation was followed by a six year residency at the University Hospital of Children and Adolescent Medicine, Heidelberg. He was subsequently appointed Consultant for Pediatric Nephrology and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics. Research activity has been focused on pathogenesis, treatment and outcome of renal osteodystrophy and associated sequelae, i.e. cardiovascular and podocyte diseases. Further focus of clinical and experimental research regards renal replacement therapy and erythropoiesis stimulating agents. He conducted several national and international trials. Claus Schmitt is a member of numerous national and international medical associations, including the International Pediatric Nephrology Association, and he is editorial board member of "Pediatric Nephrology". He consulted for a variety of international companies, holds and international patent and obtained numerous scientific awards.
