Dr. López Cabrera is a Senior Researcher of the Spanish Superior Council of Scientific Research (CSIC, Level A2). Dr. Lopez-Cabrera obtained his University degree in Biology at the University of Seville, Spain, in 1984. Then, he moved to the Molecular Biology Center-Severo Ochoa (CBM-SO), at the “Universidad Autónoma de Madrid”, where he obtained the PhD degree in the field of antibiotics biosynthesis and resistance. In 1988 he joined the laboratory of Microbiology at the University of Colorado, USA, as a postdoctoral fellow where he studied the molecular mechanisms of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) interaction with the host cells. In 1990 he returned to Spain for a second postdoctoral stay and to lead the newly created Molecular Biology Unit at the “Hospital Universitario de la Princesa”, Madrid. Finally, in 2007 he became a Senior Researcher of the CBM-SO (CSIC, Madrid). Dr. Lopez-Cabrera has published over one hundred scientific articles, which have accumulated more than 3.450 citations, and his current H index is 35. Research at López-Cabrera´s laboratory is focused on the involvement of mesenchymal conversion of mesothelial cells in the functional decline of the peritoneum during peritoneal dialysis.
