Dr Christian Verger

Has been head of the Peritoneal Dialysis unit in Hospital R Dubos in Pontoise, France from 1979 until 2011, and is now mainly involved in the French PD Registry. In 1981 : set up of a rat model for observation of peritoneal membrane alterations in morphology and transports. Works on loss of ultrafiltration, encapsulating peritonitis. Interest in nutritional status in PD. Thirty three years experience with assisted peritoneal dialysis. President of the French Language Peritoneal Dialysis Registry (RDPLF : http://www.rdplf.org) founded with Prof Jean Philippe Ryckelynck in 1988. The RDPLF manages a data base of 27000 PD patients. Organisation of RDPLF Symposium near Chantilly in France every two years, which gathers 300 nurses and physicians. Member of French Society of Nephrology, Society of Dialysis, ERA-EDTA, ISPD, ISN.

Evaluation of Nutritional Status

How can we evaluate nutritional status on a clinical basis, and is this relevant? SGA, waist, waist to hip, BMI, callipers, handgrip strength.

Use of DEXA, MR, bio-impedance etc, and use of biochemical tools.
