Dr Manuel López Cabrera
Manuel López-Cabrera obtained his University degree in Biology at the University of Seville, Spain, in 1984. Then he moved to the Molecular Biology Center, at the University of Madrid, where he obtained the PhD degree in the field of antibiotics bio-synthesis and resistance. In 1988 he joined the laboratory of Aleem Siddiqui at the University of Colorado, USA, as a postdoctoral fellow where he began to study the molecular mechanisms of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) interaction with the host cells. In 1990 he returned to Spain for second postdoctoral stay and to lead the newly created Molecular Biology Unit at the Hospital de la Princesa, Madrid. Finally, in 2007 he became a Staff Investigator of the Molecular Biology Center-CSIC, Madrid. Research at López-Cabrera´s laboratory is focused on the involvement of mesenchymal conversion in the tumor progression of hepatocarcinomas and in the functional decline of the peritoneum during peritoneal dialysis.
